There are many decisions to be made every day. There are lots of opportunities you can spend your time and energy on. There are so many fantastic ideas that can change your life or simply, make your life more fun:
- prepare healthy meals
- explore a new hobby
- upgrade your home
- apply for a new job
- start a side hustle
- shift your career
- travel the world
- plan a fun trip
- throw a party
- call a friend
and so much more. The opportunities are basically endless.
On the other side, there are also lots of distractions. They keep you away from making progress towards your goals. Although pleasant short-term, distractions keep you stuck and don’t serve you long-term.
So in this world of so many choices, how do you make decisions with ease? How do you welcome opportunities and shun distractions?
I found asking these 2 questions to be fundamental for robust and easy decision making. My finding is not only rooted in my personal experience. More than 300 clients I’ve coached so far, recommend these powerful yes/no questions.
So, whenever you face a decision, ask yourself:
1. 𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭?
When you ask yourself this question:
- Something just feels right to you. Or it doesn’t.
- The choice aligns with your goals and dreams. Or it doesn’t.
- You know straight away if something is worth pursuing. Or not.
It only takes you a few seconds to figure out if the decision serves you or if it brings you closer to what you want. Your moral duty towards yourself is to accept what serves you and reject what doesn’t.
2. 𝐃𝐨 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐭?
Ask this question to understand if the options you have align with your personal values. Compromising on something not aligned with your personal values is a price too big to pay. Also, it is a good moment to quickly assess if the effort of choosing one option outweighs its benefits. When in doubt, you may consider exploring other options.
Many times, people say that:
If it’s not a “hell yeah”, then it’s a no.
Another good ground rule to follow is:
When in doubt, always say no.
Remember to align your decisions with both your vision for the future, as well as your personal values. Each decision can bring you closer to what you want, or move you away from it.
Let decisions be easy.
Tune in. The right answers are already within you.
